An IMIB study is selected by Mutua Madrileña

The IMIB Pascual Parrilla and the Virgen de la Arrixaca Hospital are participating in one of the only two collaborative studies granted by the XXI call for Research Grants from the Mutua Madrileña Foundation. Doctors Encarna Guillén and Ana Belén Pérez Oliva are part of an innovative project led by the professor of the University of Granada Houria Boulaiz, through the Biosanitary Research Institute of Granada, which will allow the characterization of the genetic mutations of osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) to develop a gene therapy.

The objective of the research on this rare bone disease is to transform the natural history of the disease and improve the quality of life of patients. The project will involve researchers from seven autonomous communities, including the Region of Murcia with the IMIB and the Arrixaca, a hospital integrated since 2022 in the European Reference Network for Rare Bone Diseases (ERN-BOND), with Dr. Guillén as coordinator.
